KiCapte: Test Your Mobile Network Quality with This App
KiCapte is a free Android app that allows you to test the strength and quality of your mobile network connection. With just a three-minute test, you can measure and evaluate the quality of service of your 2G/3G/4G connection using two tests available on your smartphone: a speed test and a quality of service (QoS) test.
The first test measures the average download and upload speed of your mobile connection. The second test provides complementary information on the quality of your mobile service, measuring the performance of your connection on latency, download and upload speeds, video streaming on YouTube, and web navigation. The data collected from these tests will be used to create a database that can be used to map the quality of mobile network coverage provided by the four major operators (Orange, Bouygues, Free, and SFR) in Ille-et-Vilaine, France.
The data collected will provide objective and precise information on the coverage of the Bretillien territory and the quality and performance of mobile networks, which can be used to hold the four operators accountable. The Department will use this information to identify areas with poor mobile coverage and encourage operators to invest in infrastructure to improve coverage and performance. By using crowdsourcing, the Department hopes to quickly improve mobile coverage in Ille-et-Vilaine.
